Who are we ...?   

The Valiant Dance Band continues the tradition of distinctive English ceilidh bands from the Eastern counties.

The line-up of Katie Howson (melodeon), Liz Giddings (fiddle), Roger Digby (anglo concertina), Rob Neal (cello) and John Howson (banjo) has created a band that plays unusual and danceable tunes with the conviction which only comes from years of total immersion in traditional music. Over the years members have played in many of England’s most influential ceilidh bands.

What we do ...?

We play for English country dancing, usually known as a ceilidh or a barn dance. We play polkas, jigs, scottisches, hornpipes and waltzes. We always have a caller who explains the dances (which are never too hard) and you get to walk through the dance so you know what to do when the music starts.

We would normally perform from 8pm until 11pm but we are often available for day time events and timings can be totally flexible. We have a fully professional PA system and for larger events we have our own dedicated sound man.

Where we do it ...?

The Valiant Dance Band is available for festivals, ceilidhs, barn dances, private functions, corporate events, weddings and parties. In fact any suitable engagement where English ceilidh music and /or dancing would be appreciated.

What we don't do ...?

We don't sing and we don't play Country & Western or 60s music. Well we might play some tunes from the 1860s!
